Overview

The printed circuit board is where an electronics idea becomes a manufacturable object. PBDP\'s PCB service begins with architecture and component selection, moves through schematic and layout, and finishes at the factory with Gerber data, assembled samples and a test report—designed for EMC, thermals and yield, not merely for «it powers up».

What PCB design actually involves

A board is three different jobs at once: the circuit logic in the schematic, the physics in the layout, and the economics in the bill of materials. Plenty of boards work on paper and fail in the field because of noise, voltage droop or heat. We ask the awkward questions from the first sheet—how much current flows here, where does the return path run, and can this part actually be sourced next year.

Why specialist layout pays for itself

A weak board is the most patient failure source in a product, and it is cheapest to fix before fabrication. Good layout keeps layer count minimal, widens power routes, shrinks current loops and separates analogue from digital. For connected devices this is the difference between a unit that survives beside a variable-speed drive and one that randomly resets in customer sites.

What you receive

  • Reviewed schematic and libraries: footprints verified against real components and manufacturer datasheets, not just symbol names.
  • Layout and stack-up: domain separation for power, analogue and digital, controlled impedance on high-speed pairs, sensible return paths.
  • BOM with sourcing options: preferred, alternate and last-time-buy parts with lifecycle and availability risk flagged.
  • Fabrication package: Gerber, drill, pick-and-place and stencil files coordinated with the enclosure from mechanical design.
  • Prototype assembly: hand or low-volume SMT build with AOI and X-ray inspection for area-array packages.
  • Bring-up and test: test fixture, test script and initial firmware written as part of embedded systems programming.

Project flow, briefly

  1. Requirements: supply voltage, consumption budget, interfaces, environment, board area and unit-cost target.
  2. Architecture: block diagram, MCU and power-tree selection, availability check in the local market.
  3. Design and peer review: schematic, layout, checklist pass for EMC, thermals and DFM.
  4. Prototype build: fab, assemble, bench-test and characterise.
  5. Production handover: files, test instructions and manufacturing documentation.

Frequently asked questions

How many layers does a modern board really need?

For digital designs with fast clocks, four layers is the practical minimum for a controlled result—two signal layers sandwiched by power and ground. Simple controllers work fine on two; RF front-ends or dense power stages may need six layers or a specialised substrate.

How do you prevent boards failing in volume production?

Design for manufacturing: standard pad geometry, panelisation, fiducials, avoiding shadowing components for wave solder, defined test points—and a small first build with thorough inspection before scaling.

Can you redesign an existing board to cut cost?

Yes. Reverse-engineering and re-sourcing obsolete parts typically reduces component cost by 15–30 percent while stabilising the supply chain and shrinking the board.
